REVIEW THE SES INDEX FOR SCHOOL FUNDING
The so-called SES index is an inaccurate measure of a school's socio-economic index and is creating far greater inequality in the funding of Australian schools than we already have.
I call on the government to review this funding formula and replace it with one that takes into account the school's resources, donations and other funding sources.

TELL THE GOVERNMENT TO STOP FUNDING PRIVATE SCHOOLS
Public schools should be the focus of school funding by governments, both state and federal. Private schools are owned and run by private organizations or religions. Parents choosing these schools for their children should not be subsidized by the public purse.
Private schools encourage divisions in society along lines of class and religion. Only an education system that brings all kinds of children together can build a cohesive society and teach students how to interact with the wide range of individuals they will encounter in life.
We call on the government to stop the funding of private schools and rebuild a strong public education system that we can be proud of.

STOP THE "TEACH FOR AUSTRALIA" PLAN TO FAST-TRACK STUDENT TEACHERS
I would like to voice my opposition to the Federal Government's Teach For Australia plan to appoint high achieving university graduates to disadvantaged schools after only 8 weeks of teacher training.
This program has been unsuccessful overseas where it was shown to be neither educationally sound or cost effective.
Students perform better with long-term teachers, teachers who are committed to them and to the profession.
For the sake of our children, please reconsider this plan.

TELL JULIA GILLARD THAT LEAGUE TABLES FOR SCHOOLS ARE MISINFORMATION.
League Tables do not help parents find out how much a particular school will help their child get a good education. League Tables reflect the educational background of students entering each school rather than the value a school adds to the children who attend it.
So League Tables unfairly make middle-class schools look better than they really are and make schools in poorer areas look worse than they are.
After years of league table disasters the UK has moved to comparing schools on the extent to which they add value to student achievement.
We call on the Federal Government to stop the misinformation about schools by ranking them in 'League Tables'.
